White trash and disappointment

Well, the B52s concert we were supposed to go to last night got canceled because of "inclement weather."

It was raining. WTF?

We were very, very disappointed. I was SOOO looking forward to going out and having a REALLY fun time, which I know for a fact a B52s show would have provided.

I needed to go out and dance, and laugh, and forget about everything else for a while. I told Dave that he would have so much fun he wouldn't know how to handle it.

Then, we got the email. Shit. Thankfully, Dave checked his email before we left, or else we would have driven all the way out to Concho for NOTHING.

Sigh. We are hoping for a reschedule, instead of a refund.

Anyway, if you've never seen them, go at your next opportunity. And hope that they do not cancel for no reason.

In other news, our new upstairs neighbors have started to show their true colors.

Our previous upstairs neighbor was a single, older guy. We hardly ever heard him. Dave had me convinced that this building was somehow more quiet and solidly built than my condo was.

My first year here was very, very quiet. I was impressed!!

Now we have a family of three above us: Mom, dad, and an 18 year old boy. Three adults, one car.

They've been here probably about 6 weeks, and at first, were not too bad. Other than getting up at 4:30 in the morning to move furniture and yell at each other, or so it sounded, during the first few days.

But they quieted down, and got into a routine when it appeared that the dad got a job. They get up around the same time we do, and start their day. The mom takes the dad to work, and then she comes home. She leaves to go pick him up, as far as we can tell, around the time we get home from work.

I met her one day as I was coming home, and she seemed nice enough. She told me they had moved here from way up in the northeastern corner of the state. She did not say why.

Anyway, I had to come home sick one day a couple of weeks ago. Had a fever and a bad cold. Wanted to rest in peace and quiet in my own home to get well...but the mom and the son were home, and they screamed at each other, and slammed doors, threw things, etc, the whole afternoon. Literally.

Okay, whatever....it was the middle of the day, you can't really complain when it's not the "quiet hours" of 10pm-7am, as outlined in all of our leases.

We heard the dad practicing his electric guitar in the bedroom over our heads a couple of times, but he always stopped before 10. No worries, right?

But last weekend, on Saturday morning at 3:30, the mom and dad came home from the bars. They stomped up the stairs outside our apartment, and slammed their front door loudly. They clomped around in their cowboy boots and high heels, and they slammed cabinet doors, and yelled at each other until about 5.

It was the first time. No big deal. We'll let it go.

I was very , very tired on Saturday, but...well...it was the weekend, so it was no huge deal.

Then one night this past week, on Tuesday night, they were drunk and disorderly out on their balcony in the mild weather. Yelling, obviously drunk, until well after 10. But, they quieted down.

Meh.

Last night, early on, it sounded like they were having a HUGE party. We could not tell if there were guests over, but it sure sounded like it. There were loud voices, and lots of noise, but it was early, so....meh.

Because of our concert being canceled, we were home, and heard them leave around 9.

Then, at straight up 2am, they came crashing in like they had at 3:30 last Saturday morning, but this time, it was bad.

Really bad.

It sounded like he was beating her up. They were literally running around the apartment over our heads, in their cowboy boots, and someone hit the floor, multiple times.

There were HUGE crashing sounds, and there was yelling and screaming for at least an hour and a half.

Then, this morning, around 9, they got up and started it all over again. The running around sounds, the huge crashing sounds, the yelling.

So, on our way out to do errands today, we stopped by the management office and lodged an official complaint.

We have the number of the security guard who is here overnights (he's an off duty cop who lives here. There are at least 2 cops who live here, actually).

The girl in the office said that the first step is that the office manager will give them a written warning.
She also told us that we have to call the on site security guard every time it happens, so that he can corroborate our statements as to what time it is when these things happen, as well as to what the nature of the behaviors is.

If they keep it up, they will be evicted. Period.

SO...here we go again. Just like back in my condo, when I complained about the ass hole below me, called the cops on him for beating his kid, and he turned around and vandalized my balcony, and came to my door and pounded on it and threatened me.

Me, a single woman, living alone. Yeah. THAT was fun.

I certainly hope and pray that nothing like that happens here....since here, we are ALL renters, and it's the duty of the management to protect us.....And here, I am not alone.

but....I'm naturally a bit uneasy.

We took our bikes to Dave's mom and dad's today for winter storage, and to avoid the neighbors vandalizing them. Also took my antique iron cauldrons over there, just in case.

Sigh. Let's hope the system works here.

ANYWAY....here's a message to my sister: Do you have a recipe for cranberry orange compote? Didn't you used to make something like that for Thanksgiving?

AND, as for a holiday wish list item, how about the new WXRT "Live from the Archives" 2010?!!
