My scan results came back with good news. When my nurse called me on Tuesday, she read the portions of the report to me that were pertinent.
The most pertinent was that the left hepatic lobe lesion went from 2.4 cm to 1.7 cm.
That was all .... the report didn't mention the other lesions (if I recall, there were at least 2 more lesions on the October scan, one of which was very close to the stomach, which would be the right hepatic lobe).
She said the radiologist must have only reported on what he saw.
SO, this could mean that the other ones are gone, which is, of course, what we all want.... but she was going to get confirmation on that, and call me back.
She never called me back last week, but I have to go for my labs tomorrow, and when I call her Tuesday for the results, I will give her a reminder.
We had another week of surprisingly mild weather. It got pretty hot in the afternoons, but we were able to get out and walk in the evenings.
Next week? Not so much. The forecast calls for 100 and above for most of the week.
Dave has been thinking about my idea of getting up and walking first thing in the mornings, before we even have breakfast or take showers.
He has to think about stuff for a while before taking any action, especially where it involves getting out of bed.
Have I ranted in my blog about our gas range?
Here's a summary, with an update...
The oven died on June 5th. We placed an order for a new one that night with the local Lowe's store.
The new range was supposed to be delivered on the 19th.
Then, they called us to tell us it was delayed to the 21st. THEN, it was delayed to the 30th, without a phone call from them, so Dave called and asked for a manager.
All the manager would tell him was that the item had been shipped from the manufacturer.
Okay, so you sell something on your website that you don't actually carry in stock, even though, when we ordered it, it was shown as IN STOCK??? Good to know! Jeez!
We decided to just wait until the 30th. I really wanted THAT range!
But then, on Friday, Dave checked the order again, to be sure it was still going to be delivered, and the delivery date had now been changed changed to JULY 30th.
No one called us to tell us, he just looked up the order confirmation.
THAT was the last straw.
Yesterday, we masked up went to the Lowe's store, and went to customer service, and we canceled the order.
Then, we went back to the appliance department, and started browsing. EVERYTHING was on sale...I mean REALLY on SALE....$300-$450 and more OFF of the regular price.
We selected a different range, made by Samsung, with most of the same features as the Maytag we had ordered. The only thing this one doesn't have is the time converter for convection vs regular baking. Meh. I have the internet, I can look up the time conversions.
We found a salesman, and confirmed-then double confirmed-that the range we wanted to order IS IN STOCK (even though it is 3 hours away in Dallas in the distribution center, because the store doesn't have space to stock large items like that).
The original price on the Samsung was more than the Maytag we had ordered, but the sale price was $450 OFF, so it was actually $300 LESS than we had spent on the Maytag. Even if we purchased the warranty, I would be able to put $200 back into savings!
At first, he said we would have it as soon as next Tuesday. We said YES, and also, due to the MUCH lower price, we purchased the extended warranty.
As we were leaving the store, however, he chased us down, and said that it wouldn't be Tuesday, because he had found out that the truck from Dallas isn't coming until Wednesday.
We set up delivery for a week from Monday, because our mini vacation for the 4th of July just isn't a good time.
So we went from an almost two month wait for the first one, to a one week wait for this one- and WE were in control of delaying it this time, HAHA!
I'll be cooking with gas again on July 6th!
Unless, of course, they can bring it to us this coming Thursday.... that would be sweet!!
Anyway, we need to get the mowing done before it gets too warm outside. But first, BREAKFAST.
Have a great week!

Summer Solstice weekend
We had lots of rain and thunder on Friday, and our temps went from the upper 80s to the mid 60s.
After weeks of dry heat, it was delightful! June is usually the wettest month of the year, and we had not seen any rain at all until then. The grass is brown, and the flower bed is stressed.... even my drought tolerant black eyed susans were wilty unless we watered them.
The stormy weather was most welcome, though there were some really close lightening strikes, which scared all of us, even Dave!
Thankfully, the power stayed on.
Yesterday was SUCH a nice day for Summer Solstice! The air was fresh, there was a lovely breeze, and it didn't get very hot at all until late afternoon.
I did my usual chores, but I also had ample time to mark the occasion, and do some celebrating.
Today, we had hoped to take advantage of the time off, and the not-too-hot temperatures, to go to a state park out west of here for a hike, but it's stormy again today. It would be aggravating to get all the way out there, only for it not to be safe to get out of the car.
My visit to the doc on Tuesday was uneventful (other than the nurse having difficulty with the port flush...it was painful for me, because she screwed up..UGH!!)
I decided not to ask about switching medications again. What's the point?
Doc said that there is a different oral chemo drug available now, so we can try it next if I start to have more problems with this one. The cool part is that this other drug doesn't require the additional use of a hormone blocker!
My lab results looked good, so that was encouraging.
The amazing part was that we didn't have to ask about scans this time! That was the first thing Doc asked me...."when were your last scans?" Um... shouldn't you be telling me instead of asking me? It was kinda funny....
So I am scheduled for TOMORROW. I'm trying not to worry about it. What does that accomplish anyway? If the cancer is worse, it's worse, and we try the different drug.
On the other hand, maybe it's gone! I hate this feeling...utterly hate it. I am SO over it.
Today is Father's day, and Pop's birthday. The video the brothers put together is very nice. Lots of pictures, and then the recorded messages from everyone.
We are heading out to Kohl's to try to find some new walking shoes for Dave. With our walks around the neighborhood, he's discovered that his current sneakers are worn out, and don't provide adequate support for walking on pavement.
Dave is going to try to call Pop and see if he can get through.
Other than that, without our hiking trip, we have nothing much to do, and that's okay!

Slow news week
Let's see...what can I blog about today?
The protests in OKC continue, but the violence has stopped. We are hoping that the world wide expression of free speech will result in actual, tangible change.
The numbers for new COVID-19 cases in the state of Oklahoma have been reaching new daily highs, more people than ever before are testing positive since "re-opening" in a state that never fully shut down.
SO MUCH WINNING!!
As a result, we are looking at a long summer of isolation.
Fortunately, things are different than they were in March, and if we do have to go out to run an errand, there are safety measures in place at most of the places we would need to go, and we are well supplied with high quality masks.
Dave goes to Costco every few weeks, and Trader Joe's just about every week. Other than that, we have everything else delivered.
The person who tested positive at the place where Pop lives apparently did not spread the virus to anyone else at the facility. Everyone continues to test negative.
For some reason, though, it's newly impossible to get a phone call through to Pop. Dave is going to call the Director to see why that is happening.
Pop's birthday falls on Father's Day this year, so Dave and his brothers are putting together a little video to send to him. We did our part yesterday. I am amazed that the brothers came up with the idea, since they rejected the idea of calling Pop on a regular basis.
Not that they'd be able to now if they tried, for whatever reason.
Our range delivery has been delayed, so we will be 16 days without a working oven (unless they update the delivery date again). I am grateful that the stove works.
The weather here has improved, and the forecast that had called for 102 and above all next week has been changed to low 90s.
The mornings have been absolutely beautiful! I got Dave up yesterday (he usually likes to stay in bed until 9 or after on the weekends), and we got the mowing done, and he did some trimming of the shrubs.
We finished everything by about 10:30, and didn't have to close up the house and turn on the air conditioning until after noon.
This morning is no exception. The screen doors are open, and the breeze is blowing through the house. I love being able to hear my wind chimes, instead of having to be buttoned up inside the house with the air on!
My little container garden seems to be doing well. Everything is blooming, and I saw a butterfly back there yesterday, so maybe we will have some produce eventually.
My "flower mound" out in the back yard is also doing well, and I hope that we will have blooming yarrow and black eyed susans by August.
After I mowed the back yard yesterday, I carefully removed some weeds and grass runners from that bed, to give the little plants a better chance.
Unfortunately, Oklahoma is in a drought already. It hasn't rained in weeks, and the lawn is already turning brown.
June is supposed to be the "wettest" month of the year, and we haven't had a drop. I go out and water my plant babies every dawn and dusk.
The humidity has been so low that the afternoon "heat index" has been lower than the actual temperature. Unfortunately, along with the wind, that means high fire danger.
I have my bi-weekly blood draw tomorrow, and monthly trip to the clinic on Tuesday. I think I am going to ask Doc if I can just change back to the other hormone blocker.
I am remembering why I wanted off of this one in the first place.
Sigh. I guess I just have to pick which pain I want to live with.
I need to be able to move my right arm, and to walk without heel tendon pain. Maybe I can learn to do some kind of yoga to ease the thigh tendon pain that the drug I want to go back to causes.
Dave wants me to ask when we are doing another scan, but the thought of it fills me with anxiety. We'll see what happens Tuesday.
I always have to ask... you'd think my team would be more on top of that then they are, but it's just always been that way.
Anyway, I am hoping that my hemoglobin count is better than my last blood draw. I don't want to have to have a transfusion. I feel okay, so I don't think it's that bad yet.
We got up at 6:30 this morning. Both of us were having issues with sinus congestion, and the cats were acting up, so we surrendered to being awake, and have been up now for 2 hours already, and its only 8:30.
Hopefully, that will make this lazy day seem to stretch on and on. I like days off like that.
I am getting hungry, so I am going to make our Sunday breakfast. Have a good day, and a good week!

The heat is here
This past week saw some kind of weather "switch" turn on....
We went from enjoying an extended period of pleasant weather into the oven that is Oklahoma summer.
I think we took 4 walks last week, instead of 10, and no bike rides since last weekend.
Summer in Oklahoma takes all of the wind out of my sails, and gives me a certain kind of head ache that is caused by the heat. Fortunately, those heat head aches eventually stop when I get used to the change.
I can't mow the lawn anymore, and I can't work in the yard and herb garden, unless it's before dawn, and I am usually asleep when the sun comes up some time after 5:30am.
The past few nights, it hasn't cooled off to below 80 until right before sunrise. It was 87 when I went out to look at the full moon on Friday night at about 11.
It's stifling, even in the dark of night.
I am SO grateful for air conditioning, but I really don't like having to stay in, and be in an air conditioned environment 24/7.
ANYWAY....After our round of riots, it seems that the continuing protests here have remained peaceful.
We spent much of last weekend glued to the television news, and this weekend, there are no choppers or alerts on our phones.
(we live about 2 miles away from the riot zone).
And, now we wait to see the COVID-19 numbers rise again...exponentially, I would assume.
My blood work came back showing more improvement in my neutrophils, but now my hemoglobin is low.
My nurse said they would keep an eye on that going forward. If it starts to look like I will need a transfusion, they will probably back the chemo dose down again.
I also spent 3 hours in the rheumatologist's office where my doc sent me.
I talked to a nurse, then a PA, and then the doctor. They took a bunch of xrays, and drew 8 vials of blood. I literally almost passed out.
No news yet about anything, but the doctor said even if I DO turn out to have rheumatoid arthritis, she won't be able to do anything for me because I am a chemo patient.
So, that was enlightening...but I told her that we did need to find out if it's rheumatoid, or if it's just the hormone blockers.
I sure as shit hope my insurance pays for all of that....I'm a little nervous about that, because our friend Rita had all of the testing done, and ended up with a huge bill.
In other news, my boss called me last week to see how I would feel about going back to work in the office in rotation. She said that they would never have people sitting next to each other, and no more than two people at a time in the same area.
I said YES PLEASE!! I don't know when they might start this, but at least they are talking about it.
Unfortunately, however, I fear that if the virus numbers spike up again, they will cancel this plan.
Time will tell.
Remember how our clothes washer and dish washer both died, one after the other, last year?
Then our dryer died earlier this year?
Well, now it's the range. This is the one we bought when we moved in, because I couldn't stand the one that was here when we bought the house.
SO, this one is only 9 years old, but it's always been faulty in some way.
One of the knobs on the stove broke right away, and of course that wasn't covered by the warranty (I can't remember WHY), so we had to pay for a replacement, and it didn't fix the problem, so that burner just can't be used.
Then, a couple of years ago, one of the oven door hinges broke, after the limited warranty expired, and could not be fixed, so the oven door just makes this awful BANG noise every time we open and close it.
In addition to these issues, the oven has always heated unevenly, and this issue has gotten worse over time. It's also inaccurate, and has required the use of an oven thermometer to get it to the right temp.
OH, and the paint on the stove top is crazed, and getting ready to peel, due to the heat of, you guessed it, using the stove for cooking!!
Anyway, all of that being said, we were baking our frozen pizza for dinner on Friday night, and the oven wouldn't stay lit, and the house filled up with gas! Yay!!
We had to finish cooking the pizza in the microwave (we had not ordered groceries yet, so this was our planned dinner, and we had to eat !)
I do not recommend that you EVER microwave a frozen pizza!
SO, we went on the Lowe's website and ordered a new range.
Unfortunately, there is a back log of deliveries because no one wants to pick up their own stuff....so we've now heard, and it will be the 19th before our new range is delivered.
I don't do a whole lot of oven cooking in the hot weather anyway, so that's really not a big deal. The stove top still works, and I have other cooking tools as well, including my electric multi function cooker.
Now that we've ordered the new one, I am SO EXCITED about it.
This will be, without a doubt, the best range I have ever had!!
It has all of the bells and whistles! A convection oven with a conversion tool, so I don't burn my food by leaving it in for standard oven time frame recommended in recipes.
It has a cool rack that allows for two full size roasting processes to be going on at the same time (which will come in handy during my holiday cooking frenzy).
The knobs can't break or fall off, they're heavy duty metal, and they're flush with the front of the stove, making cleaning MUCH easier.
It comes with its own custom griddle for the central, oblong burner, so I can relegate my griddle to the cabin camping kit.
It has a self cleaning function that uses water and moderate heat, instead of the high heat most self cleaning ovens have. You put a pan of water in, set it to self clean, then after it cools down, you wipe it out. Done. No chemicals!
We used the last of our stimulus money to buy it. I am so grateful that we had that, otherwise, it would have been another debt to add to the list.
I have missed my chance to do any early morning gardening. It's time to get a plan for where to put the container garden. We got some trellises for the climbing plants, and need to get them set up.
There's something eating some of the leaves, and the nasturtium babies, too... so I have sprayed them down with an organic pesticide, and it seems to be helping.
Nasturtium are supposed to protect against pests! Come on!!
I also need to get the herb plants into the ground, now that they're big and strong....so maybe this evening, I will get out there a little.
Now, though, it's time for late breakfast, and then..well.. not sure. Maybe I'll take off my nail polish and start fresh. Maybe I'll pick up a guitar. Maybe I'll read a little.
I SO dislike being so sedentary!!
