Good Stuff

Even though it's a big mess of bugs, and they change stuff without notice all the time, Facebook can be a very good thing.

I reconnected with my childhood sweetheart via Facebook yesterday.  Literally childhood....there's a picture buried somewhere in our family manse of me and him under the mistletoe when we were 5.

We were next door neighbors, and he and his brother, and the other kids our age, played together and went to the same school, and did everything together.  We were like the peanuts gang.

They moved away when we were quite young, though, but we never stopped writing to each other, and we ended up being each others' first real crush/love, long distance though it was.

We had a deep, shared history, and that led to us being very sweet on each other once we figured out what that even meant.

Anyway, years went by, we grew up, we met other people, and the next thing we knew, we were not to communicate again for 30 years.

So this has been really cool, very healing, and lots of fun.  We have a LOT of ground to cover to get caught up, and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Rumor has it that my desk correction is to take place this coming week.  I have my doubts.

Jack is doing FINE.  There is nothing at all wrong with that cat.  He's going to be 14 in August, and he plays like a kitten, and shows no signs of distress.

And this happened today....

Found some cool candle lanterns, and a privacy screen (outdoor sun shade that's exactly 10 feet wide!) at Lowe's, and Dave got those installed today.  Yay!  Now, just need to gradually add things to make it funky!

Like this guy...he's a flying frog, about 14 inches across (looks bigger in this pic).  There will be strings of lights, and wind chimes, and mobiles....eventually.  We've about come to the end of our current spending limit!

This happened yesterday

It's not quite finished.  It needs the corner braces in the upper corners, and it needs the outdoor shades for privacy...but it will be complete by next weekend. The biggest part of it is done.  Thank goodness for big tax refunds!  Innit awesome?!

Change in the weather

March in Yokelhomie is like living inside the brain of an undiagnosed bipolar person.

A few days ago, it was so warm that the office was hot, and everyone had their fans on. 80 degrees outside, and in.

Today, it's 38, brutally windy, and gray.   It's the kind of weather that chills the bones the moment you set foot outside.  It's the kind of change that makes everyone sick....and I've already been sick with a stupid cold (that set in after a bout of what I am pretty sure was the flu) for two weeks.

SO, they finally built my expanded desk, and it's a cluster...um..cuss.

No big surprise.  This contractor they hired to rebuild the office has done nothing but mess things up since day one.  They're always missing parts, or things not matching, or sizes being wrong.  I've always thought that my original desk, which is so much smaller than everyone else's, yet leaves a gap next to the wall, was a mistake on their part.

Yeah...not only were they 3 months late in getting my desk project underway, they also didn't have the right parts, everything the same size, and it was 30 inches too short, too.  It's a mess.   There's a half inch or so difference in the size of the top panels, so it's only a matter of time before I run my hip or my elbow in to the unexpected corner in the middle of my desk.  Yes, really.

But, they're supposed to get out to us relatively soon (6 months?  LOL) and rebuild it the right way.

Meantime, I have to move all of my stuff OFF of the desk and put it on the floor in order to do my claims processing every morning, then move it all back into place....because my work area is only 18 inches deep, instead of 24 (remember my original desk, was only 18 inches deep, and my keyboard was hanging off of the edge?  Yeah).  So my stapler, and my tray full of envelopes, my little bin with staple remover, marker, etc (because we don't have drawers), are literally in the way, and have to be moved off so I can collate.  It's absurd.

Fortunately, the manager and my boss are just as mad about this ridiculous mass of errors as I am, and that means the contractor was back the next day, on their knees, groveling, and taking measurements, and promising to get it fixed A.S.A.P...but like I said....they've been such a cluster...cuss from the beginning, that I am pretty sure this will take months.

Surprise and Good News!

She called!  No, really...she did!

The kind of cells in Jack's tumor were "non mast cell," and she said that is the best possible news.

Chances are, it was an isolated growth, and it was fully encapsulated.  There is very little chance that he has any internal lesions, and if he ever does get another cutaneous (skin) lesion, it will be the same thing.

We know it's not life threatening at this point.

Let's hope he just never gets another lump!

Oh, and she didn't say anything about paying her for it, but Dave volunteered.  He also told her that he wants the report from the lab, and said he would come up and get it on Saturday, and pay her at that time.

He said she also apologized again for what happened, and told him who her substitute vet would be while she is off for surgery.

She seems to still think we plan to come back to her.  HAH!

Update on Jack

Hello, faithful readers...*laughing*

So.  When Dave discussed our decision with the vet who did the surgery regarding not treating Jack's lymphoma, she had said that there are two different kinds of feline lymphoma, and that the lab could do a secondary test on the tissue sample to find out what kind it is.

We said yes, please order the test.

If it's T cell, it's more dangerous, if it's B cell, it's less so, and that's the one that tends to appear in the skin of older cats....so I decided I needed to know that.

She said that the test results would be back in time for the suture removal, which she scheduled for 14 days after the procedure, and she made a point of saying we could PAY her for the extra test when we were there in person with the cat to have his sutures removed, and that we would get the results at that time.

That would have been yesterday.

But.

On Thursday, day 13, the office called and cancelled our appointment because the lab results weren't back yet.

When Dave tried to ask if they could still come in Friday before 4, the receptionist brushed him off with an abrupt "they won't be back."   She said they wanted to postpone suture removal indefinitely, until the results were in.

We both knew immediately....the doctor failed to order the secondary test.

SO.

My niece is a long time vet tech, and she explained that staple sutures are meant to stay in for 2 weeks.  She said that it probably would be okay to leave them in a few days longer, but that it's really best to take them out.

We followed the advice of a friend and checked out her vet clinic on line.  Dave called the new clinic, and even though it was short notice, they said that yes, they would remove the sutures for us on Friday, the original time they were supposed to come out.

Dave gave them a short version of the story, so that they knew where we were coming from, and by the time he got there with Jack on Friday afternoon, they had already gotten Jack's records from the Cat Clinic of OKC.

Dave told the vet the whole story, top to bottom...the missed blood test, the horrific early release, the emergency overnight stay, and lack of wound care and pain meds, and the forgotten or ignored request for secondary tissue testing.

They didn't charge us one cent, and they are going to contact the emergency clinic to get copies of their records to add to Jack's file, too.

Hopefully, we now have a good vet.  Only time will tell, though.

In the meantime, Jack seems PERFECTLY healthy and happy.  He was playing with is little sister this morning, chasing her and pouncing on her.

He's fine.

And until he is no longer fine, we will take it one day at a time.  Maybe this is the kind that is not dangerous, and he will never have another lesion.

At this rate, I am pretty sure we will never know, because I sincerely doubt she will ever call us with results of a test she forgot to order.
